Interlocks Maintenance Class

I attended Apryl’s Virtual Interlocking class and I would recommend this class to everyone who is interested.  Apryl is patient and thorough.  She provided the tools that were needed before our session, scheduled enough time for the class and was very kind with me with my “slow learning curve”.  She reassured me that it was okay.  Her follow up with the literature that I needed to help reinforce what she taught me was fantastic.  Additionally, she followed up with me weeks later to see how things were going. I never got that type of support in college! She has a passion for natural hair and the loc community. She is who you need to go to for her classes. You’ll be glad that you did!

This is my third set of locs, with each set I vowed I would never do a self retie! To be honest, the intricacies of hair and hair maintenance is just not my “ministry” or skill set.
Then COVID -19 hit!

I decided to take the virtual self Retightening class that Janelle offered. She was able to put me at ease about tackling my own hair. She was patient and clear in her explanations and directions. I am a visual learner so the fact that she sent pics to reiterate what she had explained was perfect. She watched as I did a row and gently corrected me when I made a misstep. She reassured me that I could do it the ENTIRE time. Thanks to her teaching skills and patience I have successfully Retightened my hair two times.

When things are safer I will return to the salon but in the meantime I am able to maintain my own hair. I am forever grateful.

The Interlocking Class was such a good investment! Apryl did an excellent job of walking me through each step, and in no time I was able to catch on to the rotation pattern. At my request she was happy to go over the proper way to combine a lock, if needed, how to re-establish any locks that slip around the perimeter, and how to pull in hair that grows outside the lock (challenges I would have never figured out how to manage on my own). I left the class feeling super confident, knowing that if need be I can retighten and maintain my locs at any point.

One of the unexpected consequences of the pandemic is how it’s change the way we interact with our hairdressers, a sacred relationship. I am someone who never liked or likes doing her own hair and definitely was not sure how I would deal with the change.

However, I am so grateful that despite the pandemic, Apryl worked so hard to make me feel still connected to our relationship. During the online training, she dedicated enough time to not only review the steps but watch me try it out, not only on 1 side of my head but on several sides including areas I could not see with a mirror. She encouraged and supported me throughout answering all my questions with patience and ease. When it was time to do it on my own, I appreciated her providing pictures and being available if I needed her. Moreover, she has made herself available to me weeks and months after the training, checking to make sure I am still progressing in keeping my locs.

I really appreciate Apryl rising to the occasion during this difficult time making it possible for that sacred relationship to continue.

When I signed up for the retie class I was very nervous because I didn’t want to mess anything up. Apryl was very patient and she reassured me I was doing a great job. She broke everything down, was very attentive and encouraging. She made the class enjoyable and answered all of my questions. Even when I texted her after our session was over she still made time to answer all my questions! This was a great class and I recommend it to anyone who is considering doing their own hair!

I took the virtual interlocking class with Apryl back in May and it was well worth it.

I had never attempted to retightening my hair before, so I was a bit nervous that I would completely mess it up. However, Apryl was very patient and explained the process very well. She walked me through several locks in each section on camera, giving me tips and critiques as we went along. I was able to complete my retightening myself!

I definitely recommend the virtual interlocking class. Apryl is a great teacher and she made the process less intimidating.
